11/19/2023 0 Comments Sleep no more new york duration![]() When first walking into the 'hotel' I was feeling excited but overwhelmed so I darted into a room to dig around in some drawers and 'treasure hunt' for a while. ![]() Who needs words when you have everything else? I loved that everything is in your control. And there is a beautiful soundtrack that will haunt you for days to come. There are cries, grunts, screams and other noises. A mix of Hitchcock's Laura and Shakespeare's Macbeth, this very loose, free flowing, non-spoken experience is nothing like you've ever been a part of. Do you appreciate modern dance and/or modern art? Do you enjoy Hitchcock films? Do you have an open mind about new experiences? Are you the kind of person that doesn't need to have everything spelled out for you? Are you willing to play along even if you're not 100% sure what's going on? Yes? Then get yourself to this amazing event now! I can't say enough about how much I loved it. If you want to have fun then stick with your friends so you can have something to laugh about afterwords. They say you should go off on your own and leave your friends behind, I did this and felt completely lost, bored, annoyed, hot, and tired from walking all over the floors to find nothing. It's really easy to get lost- that is the worst part. ![]() The actors will seldom engage you (if they choose you) and your part in the act is close to insignificant. The viewers will rush to follow the acting dancers, crowd small areas and shove you (I guess they are trying to feel a part of something - not their fault, they ultimately let everyone who came into the building). Since there is no dialogue, the viewer is up to his own interpretation of what is going on in the scenes - scenes that involve a whole lot of interpretive dancing to melancholic, dreary music. There are about a total of 10 characters that you might initially believe have something going on but when they all disperse into the dark "hotel" you lose the story you just created in your mind. PLEASE NOTE: This production has nothing to do with Shakespeare's Macbeth. But the majority of the rooms are boring, with either no actors or point that contributes to any developing story. Inside looks like an abandoned warehouse, painted black, with some decor reminiscent of the '20s in each separate room across all floors - close to no lighting. You are given a mask and you must wear it for the duration of the time you are trapped inside the dark, hot hotel (it was like the fog machine was broken and everything was smokey). This "show" is supposed to feel like you're in the '20s but the people look like they are dressed for a vampirish freak show some employees speak with an english accent and call you "darling" which is a little annoying.
